BIOGRAPHY

Maor Kohn is a doctor of Geography and the Environment, and one of the three creators of the Emmy Award winning TV series Tehran, a screenwriter, lecturer, writer, playwriter, and musician. Maor is also the editor and owner of the scientific website EconoMarks.com
Maor was born in 1975 and raised in Hod Hasharon. He completed his military service in the Armored Corps as a tank commander and later on as an officer. He graduated as a team commander at officers’ school.

> Academia:

Maor Kohn began his academic studies at Tel Aviv University. He earned a Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) in Political Science and Geography, and a Master’s degree in Geography with a thesis in Geopolitics. Kohn began his postgraduate studies at Ben-Gurion University, in the Department of Geography, and he specialized in Environmental and Public Health studies. Maor’s research, “The Construction of Sustainable Place within an Impounding Space among a Transient Indigenous Bedouin ethnic Group: The case of Wadi al-Naam and Al fura”, deals with the two Bedouin villages in the Negev, Wadi al-Na’am and al-Fura, which suffer from severe environmental hazards. As part of his work, Kohn drafted an index to examine sustainability among populations with indigenous characteristics, which expanded on his research. Kohn received his Ph.D. in 2018.

> Lectures:

Since 2001, Maor Kohn has been teaching and lecturing in a number of different settings: Lewinsky College of Education, along with Wingate Pre-academic Preparatory School, Bar Ilan University, The Open University and The Ministry of Education. Kohn conducts courses and lectures at the College for Achievement as well as in front of various audiences. Among other things, his lectures deal with popular science, geopolitics, terrorism, climate, and environmental studies.

> Administrative and Political Career:

Between 2001 and 2002, Maor chaired the Dan District Planning and Construction Appeals Committee. Under his leadership, the committee dealt with the cases of Ben Gurion Airport 2000, Ayalon South and the fish cages in Eilat, among others. Kohn left the committee to pursue his academic career, and later joined the mayor of Hod Hasharon, Chai Adiv, and ran alongside him as an assistant candidate for his first term as mayor. Kohn served as his personal assistant for two years.

Director in the Hod Hasharon Municipality – In July 2006, Kohn founded the Department of Complementary Education and the IDF Center in the Education Division of The Hod Hasharon Municipality and managed it for five years. He initiated the Youth Academy Project, which grants credits to high school students.

Music:

Kohn partnered in many musical ensembles and has released several albums:
1.  Seder Hafuch (2000). Production: Oved Efrat and Adi Drucker. Kohn wrote. composed and sang all of the band’s songs.
2.  Enterprises of Time (2012). Solo album. Producer: Adi Drucker.
3.  Seder Hafuch (2012). Production: Erez Caspi and Adi Drucker.
4.  Raashaket (2013). Producer: Eran Weitz. Kohn served as a singer, writer, and composer of some of the songs.
5. Within Us (2018). Solo album. Producer: Adi Drucker. This album included partners among others, George Samaan, Moshe Avigdor, and Erez Caspi.
Amongst other productions, Kohn composed the music for the three musicals he wrote, and the film “Full Moon Night”, by creator and director: Matan Shiram.
Within the music industry in Israel, Kohn worked and performed with some of the leading singers and music artists in Israel.

> Theater:

Maor Kohn has written three musicals and a short play, all of which have various backgrounds.
1. “The Desert Daughter” – A musical by Maor Kohn and Talik Ninio. Music and songs by Maor Kohn. Dramaturgy and artistic direction: Uri Paster. The musical was written for the 2018 Musical Festival.
2. “Solitude of Adam” – A rock-opera musical. Music, songs and story by Maor Kohn. Produced and performed as part of the original Musical Festival 2013. Director: Ika Zohar. Artistic Director: Uri Paster. The musical orchestration were done by Adi Drucker who composed a number of pieces. Main actors: Dedi Zohar, Gil Alon, Uri Hochman and Lior Vroslawski.

3. “Echoes of War” – A musical play about the Holocaust which appeared in various theaters between 1991-1993. For this, Kohn was awarded a certificate of excellence from the Music Supervisor at the Ministry of Education.
4. “The Button” – A short play. Directed by: Ika Zohar.

> Television:

Maor Kohn was one the three creators of the suspense series “Tehran”, together with Dana Eden and Moshe Zonder. The series was produced by the corporation “Kan 11” and distributed worldwide after being sold to Apple TV. The lead roles were played by Niv Sultan, Sean Taub, Nvid Nahban, Liraz Cherki, and Menashe Noy. `Tehran` won the international Emmy award in 2021.

Journalism:
Maor Kohn has published a number of opinion pieces in the Maariv newspaper and on the Ynet website. In some of his articles he addressed many issues including the Bedouins in the unrecognized villages of the Negev, earthquake preparedness, water economy in Israel, and the field of demography.

Check Point is easy to read and understand. I think this a must-read thriller about two women who were found murdered and two enemy entities are looking for answers. It’s very interesting and it will have you on edge.

It felt a little tedious reading a lot of the bible stuff as I am not in any way a believer except to say the good principles of any religion and fellowship is a good thing. Yes we all have a personal responsibility to take care of the planet even if it feels hopeless. I absolutely loved the new ten commandment or a way to live in society. I guess I am not the only who has always had contradicting thoughts about the existence of God and the difference about religion and spirituality. After reading this book, “A beginner’s guide to Skepticism”, most of my questions were answered.

Due to the central role of religion, spirituality and divinity play in our lives, it is a great book to read.

Israeli author Maor Kohn earned his PhD in Geography and Environment and is on the faculties of Bar-Ilan University and the Open University of Israel. While he is best known for his Emmy award-winning screenwriting (‘Tehran’), he continues his excellent Yael Lavie novel series with a prequel – THE LAST HUNT, translated from the Hebrew by Noelle Canin.

Kohn opens his story in 1942 in Czechoslovakia and his prose creates an atmosphere: ‘The Theresienstadt Concentration Camp, a fortress built at the end of the 18th century by the King of Bohemia, Joseph II, was surrounded by a stone wall, moats and watchtowers – barracks for SS soldiers and death camps for Czechoslovakian and German Jews…’ Going back and forth in time from that period to 1999 the foundation for ISA agent and criminologist Yael Lavie is established, and the author condenses the plot as follows: ‘Fresh out of the academy, newly appointed Inspector Yael Lavie is called to an unusual murder scene in the rural outback of the West Bank. The Last Hunt by Maor Kohn is a thriller that will keep you up turning pages long into the night. Yael Levis is a protagonist that you find yourself rooting for. The plot is full if unexpected twists and is adventurous and entertaining. One question must be answered: will the hunter become the hunted?

Young and fresh out of school Yael faces the extraordinarily difficult task of solving multiple murders in the lawless no man’s land of Jordan Valley. This is the perfect prequel, it was so exciting not only to hear another story surrounding Yael but also to learn so much more and dive deeper into the character itself. The mystery aspect of the book left me on the edge of my seat!

One thing I particularly enjoyed about this book was the author’s attention to detail. The geopolitical aspects of the story felt authentic and well-researched, which added an extra layer of depth to the plot. Kohn’s writing style was engaging and easy to follow, and I appreciated the way he built tension and suspense throughout the story. Overall, I would highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys thrillers or action-packed stories. It’s a great read, and I look forward to seeing what Kohn comes up with next. In addition to the thrilling plot and well-developed characters, I also appreciated the way this book explored complex themes such as terrorism, diplomacy, and the ethics of warfare. Kohn’s nuanced approach to these issues made the story feel all the more relevant and thought-provoking. Moreover, the author’s attention to detail extended beyond the geopolitical aspects of the story. The book was also well-researched when it came to the technical details of weapons, vehicles, and other aspects of the military, which added to the book’s authenticity.

An action packed book that plunges the reader right into the heart of it. With constant suspense, the author Maor Kohn has successfully written this book for it to be read in one night. A gripping and realistic novel that captivates the readers attention from the very start. The novel orientates itself at the time of 1983 in a full out war between Iraq and Iran. In which an agent and criminologist named, Yael Lavie, is called in to investigate a set of cybersecurity attacks, that undoubtly has led to the exposure of governments and the theft of millions of dollars from banks. With a team that is formed, Yael works together with them to try and bring justice to – The Assyrian. A man or shadow that only leaves breadcrumbs of political turmoil. However, the closer that Yael feels she is about to trap him in a corner, the Assyrian slips away.
A well written novel that made it hard for me to sleep at night, because I could not put it down. The mixture of tension, constant action and being on the edge of my seat, is a novel that truly delivers the idea of what a thriller action book should be. Overall, I really enjoyed this book and it is 100% in my top 3 books read. Therefore it deserves 5 starts from me!

I was happy to read this book because the title reminded me of a force of Peacekeepers from another work of fiction which is very dear to me. Well, they are nothing alike, but I still like this book anyway. Sometimes, when we are attracted to something by means of association, there is a reason for it. Anyway, this novel starts by immersing the reader right into the action. The author is not kidding in this fast action-packed thriller.
Yael Lavie is an ISA agent and criminologist. She lost her husband and everything is personal in her fight against the criminals from that day on. She has her team and they are not quitting. They will find out who stole millions from the banks, who is leading terrorists, and who is planning to destroy the world they know.
And I like her nemesis, the Assyrian. The name sounds very powerful and ominous, and that is for a long time everything Yael and her team knows about him. He is a creature of shadows. A perfect enemy, really.

In summarizing the synopsis, we find Yael Lavie, an ISA agent, and criminologist, who has seen more than her fair share of death and misery in her long career. However, her profession now takes on a much deeper, emotional meaning after losing her husband in a bomb attack. Her instincts take over when she is asked to investigate a series of cybersecurity attacks that expose various governments, and everything points to one man – The Assyrian. The Assyrian is a shadow, traveling unobserved from one location to the next, creating havoc and causing political upheaval in his wake. Yael and her team need to work together with both allies and foes in order to bring him to justice before he and his army of followers can deliver another horrible blow to the war-torn region. On the other hand, the closer she gets to The Assyrian, the more he seems to slide away from her. And the longer she continues to follow him, the more she gets the feeling that she is the one who is being pursued…

A brilliant mix of great storytelling, great action, and suspense, it only spoon-feeds the reader bits about the plot all the way through but it’s gripping from start to finish. Expertly blending genre formula, The Peacekeeper is an action thriller that delivers – and then some. Highly recommended and a well-deserved five stars from me.
